I started painting minis ten years ago, but took a few extended breaks. I've been working on it more seriously and improving my skills for the past two, including adding basing. Which, turns out I really enjoy! It gives me a chance to employ a lot of what I've learned as an earth and life scientist to make my bases more realistic.
I taught six classes on basing at Gen Con this year. Each class was themed on a type of environment. I provided supplies and taught participants how to think about natural history to make their bases more realistic (or to purposefully make something unrealistic to make it stand out). They took home two finished bases and the knowledge to make more on their own!
Slideshows
Click the links below to download pdfs of the slideshows from the basing classes! If you're checking them out as someone who didn't attend, heads up that I use minimal text in my presentations, so the point of each slide will likely not be obvious (e.g., the "What is ___?" slides are to explain how I use the word for the purpose of the basing class, not the actual definition). The slides that do have a lot of words are them are research aids for people to go on internet dives investigating new options for bases they make at home.
Material lists are coming soon!
